Abstract
The paper has an ambitious goal: to retrocede the quartely brazilian GDP series, today available just since 1980. By means of techniques of secular disaggregation of series, it is suggested that it is possible to get a reasonable approach of the series of the quarterly GDP since 1970, perfectly compatible with the annual data of National Accounting. The perfectioning of the economic data base of Brazil is a task whose benefit is evident. The year of 1980 is a “watershed” of the economy. The attainment of consistent quarterly series that cover a part of the previous period, beyond the profit degrees of freedom, opens an interesting window for the comparison of apparently distinct moments of the recent economic history of Brazil.
