Abstract
The objective of this paper is to understand from a brief historical review the main transformations occurred in the State within the neoliberal context. To do so, we begin this discussion by pointing out the main historical elements that influenced the adoption of neoliberal policies by the capitalist countries. Next, we present briefly the theoretical bases that justify neoliberal ideas as well as differentiate the classical liberal framework from its new drapery, in order to understand how neoliberalism was constituted as a political project. In the last part, we focus on neoliberalism in Brazil.
