Epidemia de cólera no sertão cearense

Abstract

This work intends to analyze the evolution of the cholera epidemic in the central sertão region of Ceará in the years 1862 and 1863. Feared since 1855, when it first appeared in Brazil, cholera aroused terror and victimized countless people; the epidemic was also the subject of disputes between healing arts professionals and political parties. When we approach the path of the disease, we seek to glimpse its development, the requests made to the Government, as well as the responses provided in the form of resources and their distribution to the appropriate recipients.
