A indústria paulista da crise de 1929 ao Plano de Metas

Abstract

There is a consensus among economic historians about Brazilian industrial growth from the 1930s. On the other hand, several studies show the increasing industrial concentration in São Paulo, during the 1950s and even the 1970s. In this article we explore some aspects of what happened in São Paulo, what changes in Paulista industrial structure (non-durable consumer goods, durable consumer goods, capital goods, intermediate goods), the pace at which these changes occurred, the grouth of pre-existing businesses as hell new firms as the arrival during this process. In particular, we examine the strategies of two industrial groups (probably the two largest of 50s) that with very different results in later decades.
