Abstract

Although exchange rate policies are considered part of the field of economics, they are the result of disputes among different interest groups present within state agencies. This article demonstrates how, from the 1950s, the control of these state agencies was in the hands of businessmen from different sectors. Therefore, the public policies, especially those related to exchange rates, reflected and still reflect the interests of the hegemonic.
