Abstract
The custom of selling on credit and the frequency of credit transactions are constant references in the reports of Portuguese colonial officials concerning eighteenth-century Minas Gerais. The aim of this article is understand the dynamics of everyday credit practiced in Minas Gerais during the eighteenth century. This article was based on the methodology of Social History and the analysis of notarial documents. The use of such methodology and sources helps understand the concept of credit, clarifies issues about daily trade; and informs about the market practices of the people.
